May is…

8 May

Good morning. Since I haven’t blogged since Saturday, I am a little behind, so let me start by wishing  all of Nurses out there a belated Happy National Nurses Day (May6th) and I hope you’re all having one rip-snorting, good National Nurses Week. I happen to work with some nurses, and I know they’ll be partying all week long.

May is also National Bike Month. May 18th is National Bike to Work Day, Apparently May is also National Strawberry Month. To celebrate I intend to eat a strawberry while riding a bike. Now, I am a long time cyclist, so I can safely accomplish daredevil  stunts like eating a strawberry while pedaling. Please, don’t try it at home. This blog assumes no liability if you do.

Now, I already knew about National Nurses Day and Week and National Bike Month before I started snooping around on the Internet to see what else might be happening this month. That’s when I found out about the strawberries. It turns out, there’s a lot going on in May.

Did you know May is also Creative Beginnings Month? It is a time when everyone is encouraged to explore his/her creativity. If you’ve been thinking about embarking on a creative endeavor, what better time to get to it than Creative Beginnings Month?

When you start digging into this whole topic of special days and weeks, it can get a little overwhelming. I can only imagine what it would be like if a person (not me, but a person) had OCD and felt compelled to honor and celebrate every special day and week in the month. Especially since May is Borderline Personality Disorder Month. Of course, for some people (not me, but some people) every month is Borderline Personality Disorder Month.  You know who you are. And if you don’t, May is an excellent time for you to become aware.

May is also Foot Health Month and Brain Tumor Awareness month. I am in favor of healthy feet and if someone has a brain tumor, God bless, it is best they be aware of it. In addition, May is Better Hearing and Speech Month, and Correct Posture Month. So, listen, enunciate and sit up straight!

May is also Ultra-violet Awareness Month. If you’ve been reading the news lately, you know that we’ve found our poster gal for this month in the person of that New Jersey mom who was accused of letting her 5 year old use a tanning bed. Mom is apparently “tanorexic”–addicted to tanning. Her face looks like a saddlebag. Let this be a lesson to us all.

There is really a lot going on this month–I can hardly keep up. Just in the category of food alone we have National Egg Month, National Hamburger Month, National Barbeque Month, National Asparagus Month, National Chocolate Custard Month, National Salad Month, National Vinegar Month and National Artisan Gelato Month. Revise your shopping lists accordingly!

It is also National Salsa Month. I am not sure if that is about the food or the dance and I am running out of time to check, so I am just going to throw that out there. If you’re interested, you know how to Google.

May is also National Revise Your Work Schedule Month. I have not, as yet, revised my work schedule, so I had best gather myself together so I can arrive at my office at my regularly scheduled time.

Whatever day, week or month this is for you, I hope it is a happy one.

Have a happy Tuesday.
