“You know I’d go back there tomorrow but for the work I’ve taken on”

24 Jul

I have returned from vacation in Paris.

The past two days have been surreal. I got on the plane in Paris and, for the first time in my life, I slept through take-off. I also slept through lunch service. That is some serious sleeping.

After I got home, around 8PM, I stayed up until around midnight. That’s Midnight in Jacksonville. It was already 6am in Paris and goodness knows what time my body clock was on by then.

Yesterday morning I got up about 8am. I did my laundry–a very needful thing. When I opened my suitcase, I found a notice from the TSA that they had opened and inspected my checked luggage. Poor TSA, having to comb through my dirty socks and underwear in search of nefarious contraband and weapons of mass destruction.

After the laundry was done, I decided to take a little nap. Then my significant other and I went out to lunch and did some grocery shopping. When we returned, I decided to lie down for just a few minutes…and again, I slept.

It is easy to wear yourself out on vacation.

Paris is a sprawling city with lots of hills and steps. I did a lot of walking. Even in the Metro, there was a lot of walking between trains–and lots of steps.

I ate bread at every meal, I had dessert at least once a day, and I didn’t worry about calories or carbs. I was on vacation!

I returned to the United States to learn that I have lost 6 lbs.

All those steps and hills and all that walking. Love it!

I am sure I will be writing about Paris for some time to come, and I have lots of pictures to share. But this morning, even though I miss Paris already, it is time to resume some semblance of my pre-vacation routine, to reacclimate my body clock and to re-embrace my non-Paris life.

Decompressing from vacation can be depressing. But right now, I ‘m just feeling grateful for both the vacation and the life that made it possible.

Ah, but Paris–I do miss you.

Happy Tuesday.

That’s why French people are fit even though they eat high calorie foods; all that walking. Glad you made it back safe and sound. Vacation can be as draining if not more so than work. Good to have you back. :o)
