I’ve looked at leaves from both sides now

2 May

And so it is May…

For me, April went all awry. I was going to start a whole new health regiment, stop drinking, write a blog each day…Best laid plans and all that.

Instead I got bitten by an angry cat and had to be medicated, had a possum materialize inside my house for no explicable reason, and then got a killer cold for the third time this calendar year. All while holding down a full time job!

Who can eat properly, exercise daily, write daily and lay off the hooch under such trying circumstances? Not me, that’s who.

But now it is May…Lovely May. I am turning over a new leaf for sure. See, here’s the leaf. Turning it over and…..EW! Bugs! RUN!

I suppose it is a good impulse this urge we have to change, to become better individuals. to grow. Still, the desire to set goals, while productive, can also just be one more excuse to beat ourselves up. If every time you fall short you smack yourself on the back of the head, your brain is liable to become addled in short order.

All the self help literature tells you, you must accept things as they are, fully embrace them, before you can succeed in changing anything.

So, April was all about the embracing. And the accepting. It was a challenging month, what with marsupials invading my home, and me getting sick and nearly losing my left hand to an angry feline. But that was April. April showers bring May flowers. Looking for some flowers…

What’s with all these botanical metaphors?!

And so, it is May. Look how pretty this leaf looks on the other side…

Happy Monday.
