Random Tuesday

19 Apr

Happy Tim Curry’s birthday to everyone (and especially to Tim.) I don’t suppose Mr. Curry reads my blog, but I can still send appreciative vibes.

You may remember Tim from such TV shows as the 2002 remake of Family Affair starring Gary Cole in the Brian Keith role and Tim Curry as Mr. French. Tim also played King Arthur in the original Broadway production of Spamalot. His film work includes Annie, The Hunt for Red October, Charlie’s Angels, and, of course, Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Speaking of Rocky Horror, I watched Susan Sarandon (Dammit, Janet!) in Bull Durham over the weekend. It is interesting how much I love that movie since I am not all that interested in baseball. Bull Durham is one of those movies I can watch multiple times and still enjoy. I think Susan is especially sexy in that one. Many moons ago, I wrote a blog about women for whom I’d switch teams  (this is not a baseball reference) and Susan made the list. Especially Bull Durham era Susan.

Over the weekend I started working on my other blog. You know, the one I said I’m going to do but haven’t mentioned since? It is a blog about journal writing or diary keeping or (for lack of a better word) journaling. I am going to deconstruct my own journals–see what there is of interest and also write about journaling as an outlet, an art, a lifestyle, a filter for life, etc.  So, over the weekend, I got this crazy idea to drag all of these old journals out of the closet where they have been tossed, onto my front porch and then I took a series of pictures. When I put the journals together, I often created collages or pasted in random pictures and I found myself focusing more on the visuals than the words, which was kind of interesting.     For example:

I took pictures of the journals themselves (thrown onto my driveway. For some reason I found that a particularly appealing background) and I also took pictures of images inside of the journals and then played with the digital images. What is exciting for me is that this new blog about journaling also has a visual aspect that I hadn’t even thought about until I had the crazy notion to drag my books out into the yard.

And photograph them in my driveway. What must the neighbors have thought? (“Look, he’s taking a picture of a book that is lying in his driveway. I told you he was crazy…)

This has been truly random today. Coherent thought is kind of hard in the morning sometimes, you know?

Happy Tim Curry’s birthday and Happy Tuesday!

Well of course I like Susan in just anything, but Witches of Eastwick especially–it’s a vice.

Love the pictures. Sometimes the simplest combinations–very original and well done.
